St. Florian was an officer in Roman army in the third century. He is said to have stopped a town from burning by throwing a single bucket of water on the blaze, and thus his association with fire fighters and those who protect us from fire.

This window depicting St. Florian located in St. Thomas Aquinas Church, Newark, is dedicated to the memory of Michael Moran Newark Fire Department, who died in the line of duty in July, 1967.

Photograph of the stained glass window by Jesse Mata, a member of the Elizabeth Fire Department.
