On Thursday, October 13, The Most Reverend John J. Myers will recognize in a special ceremony the two schools in the Archdiocese the U.S. Department of Education has designated “National Blue Ribbon Schools” in 2016.

Fall Benefit Concert presented by ConnectOne Bank will be held on Friday, October 28, 2016 at the prestigious Enlow Hall located on the campus of Kean University. It will feature acclaimed operatic soprano Maureen Francis, and the popular Tim McLoone and The Shirleys, along with The Dominoes from Saint Dominic Academy and VOX of Saint Peter’s Prep.

The Oritani Bank Foundation recently awarded $15,000 to The Scholarship Fund for Inner-City Children (SFIC). The mission of the SFIC is to provide low-income students a partial tuition scholarship to attend private or parochial schools in Bergen, Essex, Hudson and Union County.

On Wednesday, October 12, The Most Reverend John J. Myers, Archbishop of Newark, will be the principal celebrant of a special Mass of Thanksgiving to mark a number of milestone anniversaries in His Grace’s priestly life that have or will occur in the year 2016.

Larry A. Robinson, Ed.D., Provost at Seton Hall University, announced his retirement effective December 31, 2016. The Most Reverent John J. Myers said in a statement that "it has been both a privilege and a pleasure" to have worked with him.

Due to the Viewing and Mass of Christian Burial for The Most Reverend Peter Leo Gerety on Monday, September 26, the Catholic High School Expo scheduled on that date at the Archdiocesan Center is being postponed.

The Most Reverend Peter Leo Gerety, Archbishop Emeritus of Newark, entered eternal life on Tuesday, September 20, 2016. He was 104, and at the time of his passing, was the oldest Catholic bishop in the world.

Both The Record and The Star-Ledger ran a deceptive ad from an abortion advocacy group calling itself "Catholics for Choice" as part of that organization's campaign calling for taxpayer funding for abortions. In response to this organization's attempt to distort Catholic teaching and mislead people, the Bishops of New Jersey have prepared a response that clearly states what the Church teaches about abortion.

 Archbishop Myers has authorized a special voluntary collection to be taken up in all parishes of the Archdiocese during the weekend of September 17-18 to aid the humanitarian and institutional needs of the people in Louisiana.
