Catholic Cemeteries of the Archdiocese of Newark will join thousands of Catholic cemeteries nationwide in the annual Memorial Day Program, "Serving God and Country: A Memorial Day Salute to Our Heroes," and will celebrate Memorial Day Mass on May 28, at 11:00 A.M. at local cemeteries and parishes. The program honors men and women who died while serving in the U.S. armed forces and recognizes military veterans and active duty military personnel serving our country.

At the request of Bishop Richard Pates, Episcopal Liaison to the Catholic Climate Covenant, Cardinal Joseph W. Tobin, C.Ss.R., Archbishop of Newark, and the Archdiocese have signed the US Catholic Climate Declaration. The Declaration reads “As Catholic communities, organizations, and institutions in the United States, we join with state, tribal, and local governments...to declare that we are still in on actions that meet the climate goals outlined in the Paris Agreement.”

On Thursday May 3, 2018, Faith leaders, clergy, advocates, immigrants and other community members will participate in a Jericho Walk in front of the Peter Rodino Federal Building in Newark, where immigrants appear on a daily basis before the Immigration Court and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). The Jericho Walk is a silent interfaith prayer and act of solidarity.

Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Newark will hold its All Are Welcome Gala celebration on Thursday, May 3rd, 2018. The celebration will be held at Nanina’s in the Park, Belleville, N.J.  Proceeds from the Gala go to support the programs and services of Catholic Charities, Mount Carmel Guild Behavioral Health and Mount Carmel Guild Schools of the Archdiocese of Newark.
