The observances of National Marriage Week (February 7-14) and World Marriage Day (Sunday, February 12) are an opportunity to focus on building a culture of life and love that begins with supporting and promoting marriage and the family. This year’s theme, “Marriage…one flesh, given and received” highlights the one-flesh union of husband and wife that is willed by God. It also indicates the personal self-gift of each spouse, one to the other. These concepts point to Christ who gives Himself under the appearance of bread and wine—as real flesh and blood.
The USCCB offers resources to help celebrate and live the great gift of married life, including a special prayer for married couples, at www.usccb.org/topics/marriage-and-family-life-ministries/national-marriage-week.
Mission Statement
The office for Family Life Ministry is committed to placing the Christian family at the heart of the Church’s mission to strengthen families as the basic foundation of both Church and society. Toward this end, we offer resources, training, and opportunities for spiritual growth throughout the vibrant parishes of the Archdiocese of Newark. Our mission is to advocate for the sanctity of life and the importance of a strong Christian family unit. We strive to prepare engaged couples for happy, holy, and successful marriages as well as encourage a spirit of healing for families struggling with loss through grief and separation. We seek to build up families in prayer that they may be beacons of Christ’s love to a broken world.
